Read about project manager Ronald Athiyo's experience.
My career started after my BSc degree in civil engineering with a
contract as a team engineer on a value for money school
construction audit within the education sector. Following this, I
joined Leeds University to do an Msc in construction management and
engineering and stayed on as a researcher evaluating collaborative
procurement of infrastructure projects. This gave me a well-rounded
understanding of procurement methods for infrastructure delivery
and, more recently, the competitive dialogue procurement procedure.
I then joined Carillion PLC carrying out value management for
scheme bids within the transport maintenance MAC contracts.
Together with my training I was able to develop a good
understanding of value management in scheme development, especially
with business cases/appraisal of project options and bid reports,
its application to project management and a realisation of client
objectives.
Since joining Mott MacDonald in July 2006, I've been involved in
project management and technical advisory work, particularly with
the academies and Building Schools For the Future education
programmes. I've been a part of Mott MacDonald’s local government
team helping local authorities successfully deliver projects.
I've also been involved in infrastructure project finance work, for
instance, in due diligence commissions lead up to financial close
for private sector investors and lenders. I have a keen interest
and sound knowledge of PFI/PPP, and strengths in this area include
infrastructure project finance strategy, project finance
structuring, risk mitigation, financial analysis plus financial
models backed by structured training in Public Private
Partnerships.
