Methodology
We always tailor methodologies to meet the unique requirements of
our clients. Different research elements can be added to our
approach to take into account the policy or scheme under review and
to ensure we produce an output that will be of most utility to
you.
The principal components of an EqIA methodology are summarised
below:
- Evidence review and desk research – analysis of the
available and relevant published
literature/policy/guidance/previous evaluations/demographic
information.
Qualitative research with key
stakeholders
- Qualitative research – in-depth consultation with key
strategic stakeholders such as local and regional government,
technical experts to advise on design issues and representatives
from different equality groups.
Outputs
Within our assessment reports we can provide our clients with the
following analysis:
- A detailed discussion of the likely positive and negative
benefits of a specified project for
Reaching positive suggestions for a way
forwardeach of the equality groups. This looks at both
intended and unintended consequences, their level of severity and
whether they will be felt in the long-term or the short-term.
- Steps to mitigate any adverse consequences for any particular
groups and suggestions on ways in which to maximise the equality of
outcomes.
- Where appropriate, recommendations on taking forward a Stage 2
assessment – who should be consulted and the reasons for this.
- Analysis of how the impacts on equality match with local,
regional or national objectives and targets.
- Proposals on monitoring frameworks so that predicted impacts
can be measured allowing opportunity for further review of a
project/proposal in the future
